Every year, the gin masters of the world gather at this formidable UK based award show to challenge the best distilleries around the world to a taste testing dual where only the best of the best come out on top. This is the UK Gin Masters Awards, and here's everything you need to know about it.
The awards show started back in 2008 by the Global Spirits Masters Competition  as a way to celebrate the growing gin industry in the UK. At that time, there were only a handful of distilleries around the country, but now there are over 300! The Gin Masters is now the biggest and most prestigious gin award show in the world.
So, how does the judging process work? Well, first of all, all of the gins are tasted blind by a panel of expert judges. These judges have the finest palates in the industry and are not tied to any specific brands. Judging takes place in strict conditions to assure impartiality to a fair result. The judges have no idea which gin they're tasting - they just go by what they taste and smell. After the initial round of tasting, the judges narrow it down to a shortlist of gins, and then they go through another round of tasting to decide which ones are the winners.
