Frequently Asked Questions

What is Inner Circle Rum?

Inner Circle is a legendary Australian rum with an unusual origin: it was first produced by sugar giant CSR exclusively for the company's directors, board and favoured clients — hence the name. Because it was never intended for sale, no expense was spared in making it as good as possible. It reached the public in 1968, was retired in 1986, and was later revived from the original recipe held by Malcolm Campbell, the man who had supervised its final bottling.

What is the difference between Inner Circle Green and Black?

Green Dot is the Navy Strength expression at 57.2% ABV — the traditional overproof style, rich and powerful but remarkably smooth for its strength. Black Dot is the Cask Strength expression at 75.9% ABV, the most intense in the range and very much a connoisseur's rum. Both are 700ml and both reward careful dilution.

How do you drink navy strength or cask strength rum?

Start with a small pour and add water or ice to taste — a few drops of water opens the aromatics dramatically and tames the alcohol heat. Navy Strength is superb in a Daiquiri or Mai Tai, where its intensity stands up to citrus and sugar without disappearing. Cask Strength at 75.9% should be approached with real respect: sip slowly, dilute generously, and never treat it like a standard rum.

How many standard drinks are in a bottle of Inner Circle?

A 700ml bottle of Green Navy Strength at 57.2% contains approximately 31.6 Australian standard drinks, and the Black Cask Strength at 75.9% contains approximately 41.9. These are among the strongest spirits Sippify stocks — please measure carefully and enjoy responsibly.

Where can I buy Inner Circle Rum in Australia?

Sippify stocks both the Navy Strength (Green) and Cask Strength (Black) expressions in 700ml. Sippify is the official online store for the Bickford's Group family of brands. Sippify delivers Australia-wide (excluding NT and some remote areas), usually dispatching within 1–2 business days.

Inner Circle Rum

The legendary boardroom rum, revived from the original recipe

Est.: first bottled for CSR's board; released to the public 1968
Region: Australia

Some rums are made for market. Inner Circle was made for the privileged few - first produced by Australian sugar giant CSR exclusively for its directors and favoured clients. No expense spared, because it was never meant to be sold.

When it finally reached the public in 1968 it became a cult favourite, only to be retired in 1986 - until devotees tracked down Malcolm Campbell, the man who had overseen its distillation to the very last bottling, and found he still held the original recipe. Inner Circle returned, uncompromised.

Today's Navy Strength (Green) and Cask Strength (Black) bottlings carry that overproof heritage proudly. This is rum as the inner circle always drank it - you're simply invited now.
