Vale Brewing's core range is built for drinkability: Vale Ale (4.5%), the original and an early star of Australia's craft scene; Crisp Lager (4.2%); Tropic Ale (4.2%), juicy with stone fruit and passionfruit; IPA (5.5%), full and pillowy with passionfruit and pine; and Mid Coast (3.5%), a one-standard-drink mid-strength that doesn't compromise on flavour. Vale Brewing began in McLaren Vale, South Australia in 2008 as the McLaren Vale Beer Company, and its flagship Vale Ale quickly became one of the young Australian craft scene's most-loved beers. A purpose-built brewery followed in Willunga in 2012, and the Vale name in 2015. Now part of the Bickford's Group family, Vale returned to its spiritual home with a restaurant and bar in the hills of Blewitt Springs.

If you want easy refreshment, start with Crisp Lager — clean, biscuity and made to be plucked from an esky of ice. If you like juicy hops without heavy bitterness, Tropic Ale is the pick, all stone fruit and tropical notes. Vale Ale is the classic all-rounder for pizza, burgers and steak. For big hop character go the IPA, and for a session that lasts, Mid Coast at 3.5% is your secret weapon.
