Collection: FOX HAT BREWING

Fox Hat launched in 2015 as Vale Brewing's wilder South Australian sibling — a place for bigger, bolder beers that didn't fit Vale's more mainstream range. Expect intense hops, deep roasted malt and full bodies. The range includes Metric IPA (7%), Red Pelt red IPA (7.8%), Phat Mongrel nitro oatmeal stout (6.5%) and Full Mongrel imperial stout (10%).

Metric IPA is beer simplified: grain and hops weighed in kilos, beer sold in litres. It's rich and bold but well balanced, with pine and fruit aromas layered over substantial malt, finishing long and lingering. At 7% it's a full-strength IPA made for people who want hop character with body behind it.

Phat Mongrel is a rounded American-style oatmeal stout finished with a nitro charge for a rich, creamy head — deep black with a roasted, chocolatey body at 6.5%. Full Mongrel is its older, inappropriate uncle: bigger bodied, more bitter and 10% ABV, with dark roasted malt, coffee, cacao and a slightly burnt edge rounded out by earthy fruit spice.

The hoppy Metric IPA and Red Pelt cut beautifully through rich, fatty food — think fried chicken, pulled pork, aged cheddar or a loaded burger. The Mongrel stouts are dessert territory: pair them with chocolate, sticky date pudding or a strong blue cheese, or simply pour one as the nightcap.
